L' allevamento Jolihem è stato fondato nel 1950 dai compianti Jo e Lionel Hemstock. Jolihem detiene il record di Staffordshire Bull Terrier campioni nel paese di origine della razza. I nostri Staffords attuali direttamente allevati in linebreeding dai campioni Jolihem del 1960 attraverso una linea ininterrotta di progenitori Campioni.

Jolihem has owned and campaigned the record number of Champion Staffordshire Bull Terriers in the breeds country of origin. Jolihem è sinonimo di Staffordshire Bull Terrier in quanto Jolihem ha preso parte ad una notevole fetta di storia, di sviluppo e di successo della razza. Tuttavia, Jolihem ha avuto interessi anche altre razze come il Rhodesian Ridgebacks (sia Lionel e Jo Hemstock erano membri fondatori della Midland & Northern Rhodesian Ridgeback Club dove Lionel è stato il presidente e Jo un membro del comitato per molti anni). Chiunque abbia mai avuto una Stafford come compagno capirà questa affermazione, certamente sono una razza a parte. Lionel F. Hemstock (1932-1990) era negli Staffords da tutta la sua vita. Suo nonno materno, e lo zio e il suo Padre avevano "Bull'n Terrier" e potrebbe raccontare molte storie delle loro buffonate. La madre di Lionel, Edith, ricordava che suo nonno possedeva "Bull'n Terrier", che a quei tempi non erano usati per le esposizioni! C'è una fotografia di Lionel da bambino seduto in un parcogiochi a "Huthwaite" (Notts, UK), e con femmina di Stafford bianca e rossa. Anyone who has ever had a Stafford as a companion will understand this statement, they certainly are a breed apart. Lionel F. Hemstock (1932-1990) was in Staffords literally all his life. His maternal Grandfather and Uncle and his Father all kept "Bull n' Terriers" and could tell many tails of their antics. Lionel's Mother, Edith, could remember her own Grandfather having "Bull n' Terriers", and in those days, they were not kept for showing ! There is a photograph of Lionel as a toddler sat on a "roundabout" at Huthwaite (Notts, UK) recreation ground with a fawn and white Stafford bitch. The bitch was called "Sue" (all the family's bitches were called Sue), and she was a "Bull and Terrier", since the photo was taken before the breed the Staffordshire Bull Terrier was registered by the Kennel Club. Sue was typical of present day Staffords and would not be disgraced in the show ring today. Lionel's maternal Uncle also played an early part in getting the breed which we now know as the Staffordshire Bull Terrier recognised.

Jo's introduction to Stafford's was as a youngster. Jo's first Stafford "Butch" was bred by Lionel and died in 1965 aged 17.

Jo's paternal Uncle, who bred Fox Terriers, sold Lionel's Father an Irish (Red) Setter as a "nice" pet for the young Lionel. However, the Setter had been sold to several other prospective owners since it was trained to run back home at the first available opportunity. Edith, Lionel's Mother, who was already "lumbered" with looking after a "housefull" of dogs, was more than pleased with the Setter's "homing" ability. Every morning after she had seen Lionel off to school she would send the Setter out of the gate and let it go "home". Every evening, after leaving school, Lionel would go and fetch his Setter back from Jo's Uncle's kennels. This routine went on for quite some time until Lionel took a shine to a Manchester Terrier bitch, which he swapped for his "homing" Irish Setter. This turned out to be a more than fair swap since the Manchester turned out to be an excellent ratter, better than any of his Staffords!!

ho sentito spesso parlare della Jolihem ma non credevo fosse cosi antica! in pratica... ha iniziato a selezionare agli albori della nascita dello stafford! se non prima... bellissimo, questa è vera storia e che belle le foto di questi staffy.. si vede che sono i "primissimi"
ma questa linea è ancora esistente? non ho mai visto un soggetto Jolihem dal vivo...
sarebbe interessante capire da quale linee deriva... o di quali linee è la progenitrice!
wow, beautiful post! Great Staffie!!! Often I' ve felt of Jolihem bloodline, but I didn't believe that it was so old! It has started to breed in the years of staffy's birth! if not before... wonderful, this is the real breed's history beautiful staffy's pics!
is this bloodline yet existing? I've never seen a Jolihem staffy in reality...
It would be interesting to understand from which bloodlines results.... or which lines result from Jolihem!. -

Vero è una linea molto interessante.
Con il passare del tempo ha fissato la sua selezione principalmente sui Rossi, anche se annovera moltissimi brindle tra i suoi campioni.
Da quello che ho capito hanno cercato di mantenere la M line, molto linebreeding del passato è stato fatto su CH Gentleman Jim.
Credo che la selezione sudafricana affondi un po' le radici in questo kennel.. -

Very interesting, and you can clearly see how our breed have develpoed. Must say I like the fact that Jolihem have kept the length of the muzzle, beautiful!
Molto interessante, e si può chiaramente vedere come la nostra razza si è evoluta. Devo ammettere che mi piace il fatto che la Jolihem ha mantenuto una certa lunghezza del muso, fantastico!
